Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can enter a home from the soil. You cannot see, smell, or taste it. According to the EPA, radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer overall, after smoking. Testing is the only way to know your home’s radon level.
The EPA advises fixing a home at 4 pCi/L or higher and considering action between 2 and 4 pCi/L. Sources: EPA radon guidance · NY State Department of Health ·

Why we started
Long Island Clean Air.
When I became a homeowner, I started paying more attention to the environment inside my home. Between working from home, starting a family, and spending more time indoors, I began thinking about things I had never really considered before — especially the quality of the air we breathe every day.
During the Canadian wildfires, when outdoor air quality became a concern here on Long Island, I started looking for ways to improve the air inside my home. I bought air purifiers and eventually a long-term indoor air quality monitor. One of the things it measured was radon — something I had never even heard of before.
As I learned more, I was surprised by how little I heard about radon on Long Island. I discovered that a region's radon risk rating can't tell you the level in a particular home. Every home is different, and radon testing is the only way to know your home's level.
As more Long Island families use finished basements as playrooms, offices, and living spaces, understanding indoor air matters. That's what brought us together to build Long Island Clean Air.
Our goal is to make radon testing and radon mitigation easier to understand and access across Nassau and Suffolk counties. We're building LICA around education, reliable testing, and practical options for homeowners who want to reduce radon in their homes.
We believe homeowners deserve clear answers without scare tactics or pressure. A healthier home starts with knowing what's in the air we breathe.
A little more clarity
goes a long way.

What exactly is radon? +
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. It can enter buildings through openings in foundations and accumulate indoors.
Should I test my Long Island home? +
The EPA recommends testing homes for radon. Elevated radon levels can occur in homes in any geographic area, and testing is the only way to know your home's level.
What if my radon result is elevated? +
The EPA recommends taking action at 4.0 pCi/L or higher and considering mitigation between 2.0 and 4.0 pCi/L. Follow test guidance, including confirmatory testing when appropriate, and consult a qualified professional.
Are you taking appointments now? +
Not yet. LICA is currently in pre-launch development. You can register to hear when testing appointments become available. Registering is not a booking.
Where do you plan to work? +
We plan to begin serving Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island. Specific availability will be announced at launch.
